Men's Jewelry Starter Kit: The First 4 Pieces to Own

If you are starting from zero, build in this order: a gold chain you can wear every day, a bracelet, a ring and a watch. Start simple and solid, then add weight and pieces over time.

1. An everyday gold chain

A Cuban, Franco or rope chain in 14K or 10K. For a first chain, many men go with 20 to 24 inches. Width depends on your build and style: 3 to 5mm for subtle, 6mm and up for a bolder look. See Chain Width Guide and Chain Length Guide.

2. A bracelet

Match the chain style or go one size wider. Most men's wrists fit 8 to 8.5 inches; measure yours. See Bracelet Buying Guide.

3. A ring

A plain gold band, a signet or a diamond ring. Wear it on the ring or pinky finger. See Men's Rings Guide.

4. A watch

The anchor piece. Keep jewelry on the other wrist or match metals if you stack. See watches.

How do I wear it all together?

  • Match metal colors to start.
  • One statement piece at a time.
  • Scale to your frame: wider chains for broader builds.
