Any honest jeweler should answer these questions without hesitating: the metal and karat, the weight, solid or hollow, what the stones are, the return policy, and what happens if something breaks. If a seller avoids them, shop somewhere else.

1. What metal and karat is it? Ask to see the stamp.
2. How much does it weigh? Gold is priced largely by grams.

4. What are the stones? Natural, lab-grown, moissanite or CZ. Carat weight?
5. Is it plated? Gold-plated, vermeil and gold-filled are not solid gold.
6. What's your return policy? Get it in writing.
